Hele's School Year 11 Prom at Boringdon Park – A Photographer's View
There’s something truly special about a July evening at Boringdon Park Golf Club. The sun dipping low over Plymouth Sound, a warm summer breeze, and the hum of excitement as the students from Hele’s School arrive in style for their Year 11 prom.
For me, this wasn’t just another event. I’ve been lucky enough to photograph this celebration for four consecutive years, and every time I’m reminded why I love what I do – it’s not just about the pictures, it’s about the people, the moments, and the stories that unfold in front of the lens.
Boringdon Park – The Perfect Backdrop
Nestled on the edge of Plymouth, Boringdon Park Golf Club offers sweeping views across the city and out toward the water. It’s a venue I know like the back of my hand – in fact, I’ve been photographing weddings, corporate events, charity gatherings, birthdays, and proms here for over a decade. The light, the landscapes, and the space to celebrate make it a dream location for any occasion.
A Grand Entrance – Hele’s Students in Style
One of my favourite parts of any prom is the anticipation as guests arrive. This year, Hele’s School students didn’t disappoint! From sleek stretch Hummers and elegant limousines to motocross bikes and even a horse, the creativity and individuality were fantastic.
And then there was my personal highlight – an ice cream van. Yes, you read that right. On the hottest evening of our second heatwave this summer, it couldn’t have been more perfect. Sun, laughter, and ice cream – it doesn’t get more idyllic than that.
Capturing the Joy – Moments That Matter
As the evening unfolded and the heat softened into a golden sunset, the grounds of Boringdon Park came alive. Parents gathered to take in the views while students laughed, posed for pictures, and shared stories of their school days. The open-air setting meant I could make the most of the beautiful natural light, letting every smile and every detail shine.
I always take pride in telling the story of the event exactly as it happens. Because the school covers my fee, parents and students can relax knowing they don’t need to worry about costs or missing out on photos. Everything is captured – every embrace, every laugh, every proud glance – and delivered to the school the very next day.
Four Years and Counting…
This was my fourth Hele’s School Prom, and each year brings something new – fresh faces, unique arrivals, and the same unbeatable sense of celebration. It’s an honour to be trusted with these moments, and with my DBS certification and full insurance, parents can rest assured everything is handled with care and professionalism.
I’m already looking forward to next July. Another summer’s evening. Another round of heartfelt goodbyes and bright new beginnings.
