Arriving at Valleyside Barn
As a photographer arriving early is always key, especially when it’s my first time at a venue. Emma and Matt, who own Valleyside Barn, greeted me with a smile and showed me around, explaining where everything would happen and when. This insight is invaluable—it means no surprises when the pace of the day picks up.
Morning Preparations
Nathan arrived first, heading to one of the on-site glamping pods to get ready with his groomsmen. It’s such a brilliant feature—having guests stay on site adds to that festival feel. Lucy was in the honeymoon suite, which was bright, airy and full of thoughtful details like hanging hooks for her dress.
Drinks, Congratulations and Confetti
After a heartfelt indoor ceremony, everyone gathered in the courtyard for drinks and canapés. The atmosphere was lively but relaxed, with laughter bouncing off the barn walls. One of my favourite touches? The courtyard bell! It’s rung to gather guests for group photos—a simple, rustic tradition that works brilliantly.
Group Photographs by the Pond
For formal photos, we made our way down to the pond with its wooden jetty, gentle waterfall and that striking willow tree. Spaces like this make a venue truly special—they offer privacy for portraits and that perfect rural backdrop.
A Relaxed Wedding Breakfast
Lucy and Nathan opted for a barbecue wedding breakfast, a truly wonderful choice for a hot summer day. With guests mingling, children playing lawn games and music drifting across the courtyard, the day felt like the best kind of countryside festival.
Golden Hour by the River Exe
Earlier in the day Matt had suggested the River Exe for evening portraits. Waiting until golden hour was absolutely worth it—the soft summer light was magical. Away from the bustle, Lucy and Nathan shared a few quiet moments together, their reflections rippling gently in the water.
A Hidden Gem in Devon
What makes Valleyside Barn special? Its exclusivity, warm hospitality and that feeling of genuine countryside tranquility. It’s a venue that gives couples time and space to enjoy every moment without compromise.
If you’re dreaming of a relaxed, rustic wedding in Devon, Valleyside Barn deserves a place on your shortlist—I can wholeheartedly recommend it.
