Capturing the Action: REACH Wrestling’s ‘Neuro Rumble in the Park’ at Boringdon Park
There’s something magnetic about the energy of a live wrestling event. The mix of anticipation, the personalities, and the roar of a crowd ready for drama—it’s unlike any other atmosphere. When I was invited to photograph REACH Wrestling’s ‘Neuro Rumble in the Park’ on Saturday, 1st August at Boringdon Park, I knew this was going to be special. Not only was it REACH Wrestling’s first collaboration with the stunning Boringdon Park Golf Club, but it was also in support of a cause close to many hearts: The Devlin Trust CIC, raising awareness and celebrating neurodiversity.
Wrestling Meets Community Spirit
The event was more than just an afternoon of body slams and high-flying moves. It was a celebration of inclusivity and connection, bringing fans together for an unforgettable experience while supporting the This Is Us! Neurodiversity Festival organised by The Devlin Trust.
Doors opened at midday, and as the crowd found their seats, it was clear the REACH Army had turned out in full force. Families, dedicated fans and first-time attendees filled the space with contagious excitement.
The afternoon promised five intense matches, each showcasing fan favourites like Alexander Grey, Sasha K, and Cameron Merchant—and it lived up to every expectation.
The Opening Bout: Johnny Bates vs. Leo Skye
Things kicked off with an electrifying match between Johnny Bates and Leo Skye. It was a technical showcase that kept the crowd on edge. My favourite moment came when Leo climbed the ropes, poised for a spectacular leap—a shot I was determined to capture.
Leo committed to the leap of faith—but Johnny rolled away at the last possible second, leaving Leo to crash onto the mat, the gasp from the crowd audible even over the music. Johnny claimed the victory, arms raised triumphantly as chants echoed around the hall.
From a photographer’s perspective, moments like these happen in the blink of an eye. Anticipating the movement, positioning for the right angle—it’s what turns fast-paced chaos into storytelling frames.
Tag Team Turmoil: Power, Timing, and Connection
Next up was the thrilling tag team clash with Johnny Extra and Daniel Lawson joining forces against Cameron Merchant and Kain Chambers. This was pure intensity. The chemistry between Cameron and Kain was obvious and ultimately decisive—they pulled off some incredible sequences, including a picture-perfect double suplex that I was lucky to freeze mid-motion.
Capturing tag team action is a lesson in timing: you’re not just photographing one wrestler, but two working in flawless synchrony. It’s about understanding rhythm—both theirs and yours.
JJ Kelly vs. Sasha K: A Crowd Pleaser
Closing the singles bouts was a contest brimming with drama: JJ Kelly vs. Sasha K. At first, JJ looked in control, swaggering and taunting the crowd. The tension in that ring was as thick as the summer heat. But wrestling is about surprises—and Sasha delivered one. With a deft roll-up pin, Sasha snatched victory from the jaws of defeat, igniting a roar from the audience.
As I clicked the shutter capturing that split second of triumph, it felt like the essence of the whole night—a community coming together, surprises round every corner, and a shared passion bringing people to their feet.
The Grand Finale: Battle Royal Chaos
The evening wrapped with a 12-person Battle Royal, and the stakes couldn’t have been higher—or the ring more crowded. Stars collided in every direction, alliances formed and collapsed, until three names remained: Onyx, Jack O’Clubs, and Alexander Grey. In an eruption of cheers, Grey stood tall, arms raised in victory—a perfect bookend to an event designed to entertain and inspire.
Why Events Like This Matter
For me, photographing events like Neuro Rumble in the Park is about more than technical skill or getting the perfect shot. It’s about telling a story that resonates beyond the ring. This wasn’t just an afternoon of wrestling—it was a platform for a cause, a reminder of how sport and entertainment can break down barriers and build community.
The Devlin Trust’s commitment to celebrating neurodivergence through initiatives like the This Is Us! Festival aligns beautifully with that spirit. Every ticket bought, every cheer, every photo—together, they feed into something bigger than any single moment.
