Salcombe Harbour Hotel – A Dreamy Coastal Wedding Spot
Salcombe Harbour Hotel – A Dreamy Coastal Wedding Spot
The Salcombe Harbour Hotel is one of those places that leaves an impression the moment you arrive. Sitting right on the water’s edge, it offers sweeping estuary views and the kind of coastal charm Devon is famous for. This week, I had the pleasure of photographing my very first wedding at the hotel – and it didn’t disappoint.
Debbie and Stuart chose the Salcombe Harbour Hotel for an intimate celebration with 40 of their closest family and friends. It was relaxed, personal and heartfelt, perfectly matching the serene vibe of the venue.
Arriving at Salcombe Harbour Hotel
If you’ve ever driven down into Salcombe, you’ll know the anticipation that builds on those winding roads as the water comes into view. Walking into the hotel, you’re greeted with floor-to-ceiling glass and the kind of light every photographer loves. It’s elegant without feeling stuffy – coastal luxury with a laid-back Devon twist.
Spaces Perfect for Wedding Photography
One of the highlights of photographing here is the sheer variety of locations without ever needing to leave the property. For a couple who want both stunning backdrops and convenience, it’s a dream setting.
The Sun Balcony
The Sun Balcony stole my heart. With panoramic views both up and down the estuary, it’s bathed in golden evening light – just perfect for those couple portraits. While it isn’t private, a little patience was all it took to capture those intimate moments against the sweeping water views.
The Slipway to the Water
Just along from the terrace, there’s a gentle slipway that leads right down to the water’s edge. When the tide is high, it becomes a beautiful spot for photos – the light dancing on the estuary and the sense of being so close to the water add a calm, romantic feel. It’s a simple feature, but one that creates memorable images without ever leaving the hotel grounds.
Courtyard Hideaway
Tucked away is a charming courtyard – complete with a mature tree and landscaped grass area. It offers a little seclusion for those moments when couples just need to step back and savour the day together.
Inside the Hotel
The chic interiors continue the relaxed, coastal vibe. From the stylish Marine Bar (where Debbie and Stuart’s celebrations unfolded) to the cosy cinema room that’s perfect for guests wanting a break, every detail here feels designed with comfort and elegance in mind.
The hotel’s restaurant offers exceptional food – something I’ve enjoyed first-hand on previous stays. And yes, the spa is every bit as indulgent as it sounds – a bonus for couples making a weekend of it.
Reflecting on the Day
There’s something special about an intimate wedding in a setting like this. With just 40 guests, Debbie and Stuart’s day felt calm, connected, and full of joy. The estuary, the coastal breeze, the laughter drifting out from the Marine Bar – it all created a wedding atmosphere that was both elegant and effortless.
