Some venues just feel like coming home, and for me, Bickley Mill is one of them. Tucked away in the peaceful countryside near Newton Abbot, it’s a venue that combines rustic charm with thoughtful details, creating the perfect setting for a relaxed wedding day.

I was back there just this past Friday for Chloe and Nathan’s wedding, and as always, it reminded me exactly why this place has become such a firm favourite over the years.

I’ve photographed weddings at Bickley Mill six times over the past decade, and each time, its charm only grows. The venue manages to feel traditional yet perfectly equipped for modern weddings. From the inviting stone walls and cosy interiors to the beautifully kept gardens, it’s an easy canvas for storytelling.

Even with our famously unpredictable British weather, Bickley Mill never disappoints. Chloe and Nathan were lucky – the August rain took a break for the key moments, allowing them to enjoy the terrace before moving indoors for the evening celebrations.

One of the things that always stands out for me is how versatile the spaces are. The ceremony room feels intimate and warm, while the wedding breakfast room makes the transition into evening celebrations seamless. Add in the heated covered terrace – ideal for winter weddings – and you’ve got a venue that works in every season.

And the food? Honestly, it’s reason enough to love this place. As someone who has been to more weddings than I can count, I can promise you the kitchen here never lets anyone down. It’s hearty, beautifully presented, and full of flavour – a reflection of the venue’s care for their couples and guests.

Chloe and Nathan’s day was everything they wanted – laid-back, fun, and filled with laughter. From those quiet bridal prep moments with her bridesmaids through to that confetti shot under the late-summer sky, it was a day that felt real, not staged.
