What is reportage wedding photography?
At Mike Lister Photography, you’ll often hear us talking about reportage wedding
photography but what is it? Well, the best way to describe it is ‘storytelling through
photography’.
The reason it’s so good for wedding days is that it allows people to remember the whole day and not just one moment of it and let’s be honest, there’s much more to a wedding day than just ‘I do’.
You see back then people didn’t really spend that much money on getting married. They weren’t the big celebrations or occasions that they are today and when you put all that
effort in, doesn’t it make sense to ask the photographer to capture as much of it as possible? Of course, it does and that’s where reportage wedding photography comes in and that’s why
we specialise in it at Mike Lister Photography.
If you go back fifty or sixty years, then the role of a wedding photographer was a fairly simple job. You were expected to turn up at the church or registry office and then get a group picture as everyone left for the reception at the local pub. But things have changed over the years and we think that they’ve definitely changed for the better.

If what you’re after is a true and accurate record if just how amazing your special day was then we can help you achieve that. Making sure we’re there to capture those special moments as you’re getting ready. Those unguarded, slightly nervous minutes just before you walk down the aisle, the first kiss, the wedding breakfast, the speeches and the dancing.
The goodbyes, the goodnights and of course those moments that some guests would rather forget. All part of the greatest day of your life and all captured on film by Mike Lister Photography … that, right there, is reportage wedding photography in a nutshell.
Understanding this process is what we do best. It’s a modern style that’s based entirely on the idea that a wedding is an occasion, a whole day, an event. It’s not a single moment. It’s
shared with your guests, your family and your friends and it’s about as far removed from a quick snap outside the church as is possible. Strangely though, we’ve never been invited to photograph a stag do, a hen night or even a honeymoon but then again, some things are private.
