A Rustic Wedding in Devon –
How I met this lovely couple and captured their love story in a beautiful rural setting
One of the best parts of being a wedding photographer is meeting new people and hearing their stories.
I love to connect with couples who share my passion for capturing genuine and natural moments that will last forever.
That’s why I was delighted to meet Steve and Jo at Westpoint Wedding Show, where they were looking for a wedding photographer to document their special day.
They were drawn to my relaxed and informal approach, and we hit it off right away. They told me about their plans for a rustic wedding at their farm in Devon, and I was excited to be part of it.
They also mentioned that Jo had found her dream dress at the Bridal Box, a regular neighbour at the wedding show. Helen, the owner, always has a lovely stand showing off the latest wedding dresses for couples to see and model during the show. I was happy to hear that Jo had found the perfect dress for her, and I couldn’t wait to see her in it.
The wedding day arrived, and it was a beautiful summer day. The sun was shining, and the sky was blue. I met Steve and Jo at Greenham Church in Wellington, a very small local church with a lot of charm.
I had worked with the vicar before, at Wembury Church near Plymouth, and he was very friendly and welcoming. He gave me permission to take photos during the ceremony, as long as I was discreet and respectful.
I was happy to oblige, as I always try to blend into the background and capture the emotions without intrusion. Steve and Jo looked radiant as they exchanged their vows, and I could feel the love and happiness in the air. They couldn’t hide their smiles, and neither could I.

After the ceremony, we went back to their farm, where they had converted a horse stable into a beautiful rustic wedding reception.
The decor was simple but elegant, with wooden tables, white flowers, and fairy lights.
The Cobra, the convertible car that Jo had arrived in, was parked in the corner, adding a touch of glamour to the scene. We were able to photograph all the groups outside, with the rolling valleys in the background, as well as their horses.
Steve and Jo were very relaxed and natural, and they enjoyed every moment of their day. They were surrounded by their family and friends, who were all very supportive and happy for them.
The speeches were heartfelt and funny, the food was delicious, and the music was lively. It was a perfect day, and I was honoured to be part of it.
